Product Details
Because of the general satisfaction received among the Saints regarding the Faith Promoting Series, the Church decided to publish biographies of some of the leading ladies of the Church. Lydia Knight’s History was the first publication of the Noble Women’s Lives Series.
The purpose of the Faith Promoting Series and the Noble Women’s Lives Series was to record the testimonies and faithful experiences of the first generation of Saints who knew the Prophet Joseph Smith. This book is a history of a lady who early in life joined the Church, and remained faithful through the various trials and hardships to which the early Saints were subjected. Deserted by her first husband, she became the wife of Newel Knight, and later in life made the trek out West as his widow. Lydia Knight was born in 1812 and died in 1884, a year after this work was published. The author, using the pen name “Homespun”, was Susa Young Gates, a well-known author of the time among the Latter-day Saints. 102 pages
