This booklet was given to all Latter-day Saints as they began their journey on the trail to Salt Lake City.
The booklet is "a table of distances showing all the springs, creeks, rivers, hills, mountains, camping places, and all other notable places from Council Bluffs to the Valley of the Great Salt Lake; the whole route having been carefully measured by a roadometer, and the distance from point to point, in English miles, accurately shown." Following the day-by-day account of the journey is a description of Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake Valley. "The grass is rich and plentiful, and well filled with rushes, and the passes in the mountains afford abundance of good timber, mostly balsam fir. . . . There are two sulphur springs a mile and a half north of the TEMPLE BLOCK; the water is salt and a little warmer than blood; two miles further north there is a sulphur spring of boiling water." This is an excellent guide for vacationers planning to drive to Church history sites in the Midwest. 24 pages
