Because of the general satisfaction received among the Saints regarding the Faith Promoting Series, the Church decided to publish biographies of some of the leading ladies of the Church. Heroines of “Mormondom” was the second and last publication of the Noble Women’s Lives Series.
The purpose of the Faith Promoting Series and the Noble Women’s Lives Series was to record the testimonies and faithful experience of the first generation of Saints who knew the Prophet Joseph Smith. This book contains the histories of three of these special ladies. The first is of Mary Fielding Smith (1801-1852), the wife of Hyrum Smith, the mother of Joseph F. Smith, who is the author of this biography. The second is of Mary Chittenden (1818-1886), the wife of William Chittenden. The author of this biography was by “Homespun”, which is the pen name of Susa Young Gates. The third biography is of Amanda Smith (1809-1886), the wife of Warren Smith who died at the Haun’s Mill, Missouri, Massacre. The author of this woman is EBW, which are the initials of Emmeline B. Wells. 96 pages
