The forerunner to today's Doctrine and Covenants, the Book of Commandments was taken to Independence, Missouri, for printing in 1833.
Because of mob violence present there, the press was destroyed and type and pages were scattered to prevent the book's publication. Some of the pages were gathered and subsequently bound with about two-thirds of the proposed book. This is an extremely rare book today with only a few known copies. The Book of Commandments contains 65 chapters (sections) with the last chapter only partially completed. 113 pages
