Orson F. Whitney (1855-1931)
Born in Salt Lake City, Orson was the son of Horace Whitney, eldest son of Newel K. Whitney. His mother, Helen Whitney, was the eldest daughter of Heber C. Kimball. In 1876 he was called on a mission to Pennsylvania, and in 1881 he served another mission to England. After serving as Bishop for twenty-eight years, he was ordained to the Quorum of the Twelve in 1906. He wrote the four volume set History of Utah, and also The Life of Heber C. Kimball. The town of Whitney, Idaho is named after him.
