James E. Talmage (1862-1933)

Born in England, he and his family emigrated to America in 1876. Talmage was ordained an Apostle in 1911. He was a professor of geology and chemistry. Elder Talmage taught at Brigham Young University, and was also on its Board of Trustees. During his residence in Provo, he served as city councilman, alderman and justice of the peace. He is the author of many books, some of which are The Great Apostasy, Jesus the Christ, The Articles of Faith and The House of the Lord.
