Joseph Fielding Smith (1876-1972)

Thought of by many as a contemporary prophet of the 20th century and an author of more recent books, Elder Joseph Fielding Smith began his career early as an Assistant Church Historian and served as the official Church Historian for fifty years. Son of president Joseph F. Smith and grandson of martyr Hyrum Smith, he was called to serve as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve in 1910, at the age of thirty-four, and served in that body for longer than any other man in this dispensation-eventually sustained as President of the Church in 1970 for the last two years of his life. He was the author of twenty-five different books written on church history and doctrine.
