Heber C. Kimball (1801-1868)

Born in Vermont, Kimball, and his friend, Brigham Young, joined the Church in 1832, and in 1833 moved to Church headquarters in Kirtland, Ohio. He became one of the original Twelve Apostles in 1835. He served two missions to Great Britain, 1837-1838, and again 1839-1841. Joseph Smith said of Heber, "Of the Twelve Apostles chosen in Kirtland, . . . there have been but two [who have not] lifted their heel against me - namely Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball." He served as First Counselor to President Young from 1847 to his death.
